The most wanted certificate in the world of textiles

Are you looking for sustainable bed linen and don't know what to choose?

Nowadays, the consumer is increasingly aware and concerned with the preservation of the environment. It is no longer enough for a brand to say that it has a sustainable production process, it is necessary to prove it.

In order to promote sustainability in the world of textiles, the following 4 international organizations have joined and originated the GOTS Certificate: Organic Trade Association (OTA, USA), Internationaler Verband der Naturtextilwirtschaft (IVN, Germany), The Soil Association (UK) and Japan Organic Cotton Association (JOCA, Japan).

Why is it important to check that this logo is on products before you buy them?

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world's leading textile processing standard for organic fibers. This certificate certifies that the product is produced with organic materials and that the organization, and its entire production process follow ecological and social criteria.

For GOTS each step of the production process is important and must not be neglected. A local inspection and certification are conducted throughout the textile manufacturing chain, from the harvesting of raw materials, production, packaging, labelling, to the moment the product leaves the producer's home for the end consumer.

By checking that the textile product you want to buy is GOTS certified, you will know that you are dealing with a sustainable, ethical and high-quality product.

What are the key points for a product to become GOTS?

We highlight some of the essential points to define this certificate:

Production with organic fibers

GOTS products must be produced with organic fibers as, by being grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, and genetically modified organisms, they contribute to the reduction of environmental impact and benefit health and the environment.

Ecological and social criteria

To obtain the GOTS certificate, in addition to having organic fibers as raw material, textile companies must respect other sustainability standards throughout their production process, as well as demonstrate respect and ethics towards their employees.

Present throughout the Production Process

As mentioned above, it is not enough to consider only the raw material of the product. For a product to be considered with the GOTS Seal the whole production process must respect sustainability and environmental preservation standards.

What kind of products are GOTS certified?

We can find several home textile products on the market certified by GOTS.
