How to choose the size of the clothes for my bed

How to choose the size of the clothes for my bed
The correct size should always be chosen taking into consideration the length, width and height of the mattress. However, another crucial factor is personal taste. Don't you know why? We'll explain it all to you.

How do I know what the ideal size for my sheets is?

Let's start by learning how to choose the measurement of the sheets for the bed, since, depending on the type of sheet, the size can have a huge impact on the presentation of the and the quality of sleep.

  1. Bottom sheet
When it comes to the bottom sheets, size may not be a crucial factor. In a bottom sheet, if the sheet is larger than the bed dimension, we can place the leftover size under the mattress. As long as the mattress is placed properly, the sheets will remain stretched.

However, this is not the case with fitted bottom sheets.

Measurements for the fitted sheet

If the Fitted Sheets are too large, they will shift as we sleep and move in bed, creating folds that make sleep disturbed. If they are too small, they will remain stretched and will damage the material and the elastic.

The measurement of a fitted sheet must always take into consideration the measurements of the mattress. Throughout this article we will use the following mattress measurements as a reference:

Centimeters: width (150cm) x length (203cm) x height (31cm)
Inches: width (60 in) x length (80 in) x height (12 in)

In this case, the correct measurement for the fitted sheet is width (150cm) x length (203cm) x height (41cm) or width (60 in) x length (80 in) x height (16 in), being all the measurements the same as those of the mattress, except for the height. We advise you to choose a measurement of height, however small, such as 10 cm and 4 in, in order to use the excess size under the mattress.

         2. Top Sheet

When calculating the correct length of the top sheet for your bed, we must take into consideration the width and height of the mattress.

Width of the Top Sheet Let's remember the measurements of the mattress: width (150 cm) x length (203 cm) x height (31cm) or width (60 in) x length (80 in) x height (12 in).

In this case we have to add to the width, the height of the mattress on the left and right side, but also the leftovers of the two sides that will allow us to attach the sheet underneath the mattress:

Top sheet width = (Mattress width) + (Mattress height) + (Mattress height) + (Side overhang) + (Side overhang)
Top sheet width Cm = 150 cm + 31 cm + 31 cm + 15 cm + 15 cm = 242 cm
Top sheet width In = 60 in + 12 in + 12 in + 6 in + 6 in = 96 in

Length of the Top Sheet

Regarding the length, we should measure the length and height of the mattress, adding a margin for leftovers:

Length of the top sheet = (Mattress Length) + (Mattress Height) + (Top Fold (Top Fold) + (Overhang for bottom)
Length of the top sheet Cm = 203 cm + 31 cm + 15 cm + 15 cm = 264 cms
Length of the top sheet In = 80 in + 12 in + 6 in + 6 in = 104 in

How do I know what the ideal size for my coverlet is?

Once we know how to choose the right size for the sheets, let's find out how to choose the right size for your coverlets.

In the case of coverlets, it is mainly a matter of personal taste. While some people like their coverlet to lie flat on the floor, others like them to "creep" across the floor or the bottom of the bed or without touching the floor.

Most of our customers prefer their coverlet to be low to the floor. Let's find out how we calculate this measurement.

Here are the measurements of the mattress: width (150cm) x length (203cm) x height (31cm) or width (60 in) x length (80 in) x height (12 in), and now, we also consider the measurement from the top of the mattress to the floor: 50 cm and 20 in.

Coverlet Width

When calculating the width of the Coverlet we must take into consideration 2 points: the width of the mattress and the height from the top of the mattress to the floor or the height from the top of the mattress to the mattress to the point where you like to see the quilt fall. The height should be considered twice, for both sides of the bed.

Coverlet Width = (Mattress Width) + (Mattress-Floor Top Height) + (Mattress-Floor Top Height) Mattress-Floor)
Coverlet Width Cm = 150 cm + 50 cm + 50 cm = 250 cm
Coverlet Width In = 60 in + 20 in + 20 in = 100 in

Coverlet
Length

The step-by-step instructions for calculating the length of the Coverlet are different.

First, for the head of the bed, we should give an average of 10 cm to spare so that we can then attach the quilt between the mattress and the bed. Then we take into consideration the length of the mattress and calculate the height from the top of the mattress to the floor or to the point where you like to see the coverlet fall.

Length = (Coverlet Length) + (Overhang) + (Top of Mattress-Height)
Coverlet Length Cm = 203 cm + 10 cm + 50 cm = 263 cm
Coverlet Length In = 80 in + 4 in + 20 in = 104 in

How do I know what the ideal size for my duvet is?

The duvet cover, more common in colder seasons, should extend over the sides of the bed so that you can stay warm all night long.

Duvet Cover Width

We recommend a cover larger than the mattress size for a comfortable night's sleep.

Width Duvet Cover = (Mattress Width) + (Mattress Height) + (Overhang) + (Mattress Height) + (Overhang)

Width duvet cover Cm = 150 cm + 31 cm + 10 cm + 31 cm + 10 cm = 232 cm
Width duvet cover In = 60 in + 12 in + 4 in + 12 in + 4 in = 89 in

Duvet Cover Length

The length of the duvet cover is the sum between the length and the height of the mattress, being the exact dimensions of your mattress.

Duvet Cover Length = (Mattress Length) + (Mattress Height)
Duvet Cover Length Cm = 203 cm + 31 cm = 231 cm
Duvet Cover Length In = 80 in + 12 in = 92 in

After reading this article, you are now ready to choose the right size of bedding for your bedroom, always remembering that with the exception of the fitted sheet, all bedding must be chosen taking into consideration the preference of each one.
