How to wash sheets and towels to maintain quality!

Important precautions should be taken when washing sheets and towels, so find out everything you need to know.

Domestic life has a lot going for it. There are several tasks that we must master so that we don't make any mistakes that could cause damage. Washing time is fundamental. If washing clothes has much to do with it, towels and sheets also prove challenging. There are certain precautions to take when washing sheets and towels without damaging their properties. The aim is to maintain their qualities for longer, to give these items greater longevity, and to make our daily lives more comfortable and enjoyable. We've put together expert tips that will enable you to present impeccable sheets and towels.

Care of sheets

Before washing, read the label on the sheets.

Sheets and pillowcases need regular washing to eliminate dust mites and bacteria. Nowadays, most bed linen can be washed in cold water using conventional washing machines.

Cold water is an effective and sustainable option for washing bed linen. This washing reduces the occurrence of tears and keeps colours bright, so bed linen lasts longer.

When taking bed linen to the washing machine, always add two sets of sheets and pillowcases. This strategy protects the bed linen and increases its longevity.

When selecting the sets of sheets and pillowcases to be washed, don't mix different sheets of different materials. Flannel sheets should be washed together, separately from cotton sheets. Cotton sheets should be washed together; they should not be washed with satin sheets. Satin sheets should also be washed separately.

In addition, you should divide them up by colour to prevent the coloured sheets from staining the white ones. This way, you can wash the lighter-coloured sheets completely and avoid having to bleach a white sheet.

When washing sheets, choose to use the detergents recommended for each type of material.

Towel care

With time and use, towels tend to become dry and rough. It's important to take care that they remain soft and comfortable. Ideally, after a shower or bath, they make the drying experience softer and more comfortable on the skin, a pleasant sensation that pampers us. For this to happen, washing must be taken seriously.

It's essential to wash towels correctly to keep them fluffy and soft.

First, you need to sort the towels by colour and level of soiling. Very dirty towels should be washed separately from the others.

Then wash the white towels separately from the coloured towels, using a conventional detergent.

Washing towels in the machine should be done at the right temperature, a washing temperature of 60°C is recommended to effectively eliminate germs and bacteria.

However, always follow the washing instructions on the label, as towels made from delicate materials may have different instructions.

In this way, you will be able to prolong the life of your towels and preserve their essential softness.

It's important to choose the right detergent. You should use a mild detergent for towels.

Bear in mind that heavy detergents can damage the natural fibres and can also leave unsightly stains. You should also avoid using fabric softener, a product that will reduce the absorption capacity of towels.

Drying towels properly is essential, as it allows the fibres to release the water accumulated during the washing cycle. Ideally, you should dry your towels at a low temperature.

Towels can be hung up and left to dry in the open air. However, you can't put the towels directly in the sun, especially during warmer weather - the heat can fade the towels!

Finally, consider washing your towels after each use, this is a strategy to keep them softer. However, if you use your towels daily, to avoid bacterial and fungal proliferation, wash them weekly (at the most).
